Ozzie Nelson, Class of 1927
zzie Nelson was a
golden boy all the way. At Rutgers, Nelson, born in Jersey City, was on the football team, edited and drew cartoons for
the humor magazine, acted, directed the band, and debated. The photo shows him (far left) with three other apparent
Big Men on Campus in front of Old Queen's sometime in the mid-1920s. After college, Nelson led a popular big band
(and made the football song, "Loyal Sons of Rutgers" famous), and went on to a career on radio and TV. He is perhaps
best known for his role on "The Ozzie and Harriet Show" which presented the all-American family in weekly episodes.
