'19, was the third black student at Rutgers, born the son of a black clergymen in Princeton and educated in Somerville.
Robeson was an all-American football player at Rutgers, won letters in most of the other sports, was a debating
champion, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to a distinguished career as an actor, singer
(he had a magnificent operatic voice) and political activist. He is shown here as a member of the Varsity Club of 1917-1918.
