William H. S. Demarest, 1907 illiam H. S. Demarest
was the only Rutgers alumnus ever to serve as president of the college. He graduated in the class of 1883, a member
of the fourth generation of his family to be connected to Rutgers, and served as president from 1906 to 1924, when he
stepped down due to policy disagreements with some of the trustees.
