Stem Cell Initiative

The mission of the Stem Cell Institute of New Jersey is to pioneer new therapies from stem cell research for currently incurable medical conditions such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, diabetes, and spinal cord injury.

The institute, jointly managed by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, recruits top scientists, provides specialized facilities, conducts clinical trials, educates the next generation of researchers and physicians, and enables the collaborative approach to research required by this rapidly emerging and highly competitive field.

In addition, the institute’s research and training activities are expected to boost the state’s economy through the creation of new pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and jobs.
